Around Louisiana: Week of May 8, 2017

"Around Louisiana” is a weekly blog post that provides business news from across Louisiana. Every Monday, we share news and events from different corners of the state.

Statewide:

  • Louisiana Economic Development (LED) announced last week that Louisiana was awarded a federal grant to track foreign investment in the state. The grant will provide for the creation of an international trade recruitment tool known as the Predictive Investment Model, or PRIMO. Read the LED announcement here.
  • Last week was National Small Business Week hosted by the Small Business Administration (SBA). As part of the week of celebration, LED and the SBA announced the winners of the 2017 Louisiana Small Business Awards. The announcement was made last week, and the winners were honored in a private reception at the Governor’s Mansion. Click here to meet the winners.


Acadiana:

  • LED announced a new business site certification program in 2016, and the first new site to receive the certification is in Carencro. Click to read the article from the Daily Advertiser, "Northpark business site gains LED approval.”


Baton Rouge

  • The World Trade Center of New Orleans is hosting a day-long, "Future of Trade Summit” this Tuesday, May 9, in Baton Rouge. The event will feature several panel discussions, as well as a keynote address by Thomas H. Hudson, the President of G2, LNG. Click here to learn more about the event.


Central Louisiana

  • The Louisiana Forestry Association is hosting a Louisiana Logger Council Chapter 3 meeting on Thursday, May 11, at 6:00 PM. The presentation will focus on equipment cost savings, and two CLE credit hours will be awarded those who attend the meeting. Click here to register.


Greater New Orleans:

  • The Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) is hosting a "Customer Focused Selling” workshop on Tuesday, May 9, in Hammond. The event promises, "simple, repeatable processes that are focused on an exceptional, customer-focused experience, this program will help business owners significantly increase their company’s sales.” Click here to register.


Southwest Louisiana

  • On Thursday, May 11, the Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) is hosting a "Women-Owned Small Business Certification” class in Lake Charles. The event will focus on how woman-owned businesses can utilize this certification to do business with the government. Click here to learn more.
