"Around Louisiana” is a weekly blog post that provides business news from across Louisiana. Every Monday, we share news and events from different corners of the state.

Statewide:

  • The State of Louisiana has set up a loan fund for businesses affected by the March and August floods of 2016. Loans of up up to $50,000 are available at 0% interest. Click here to see if your business might qualify, and consider attending an upcoming info session at a Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) location. See below for info sessions in Walker and Hammond.


Acadiana:

  • On Thursday, May 25, the Vermillion Chamber of Commerce is hosting a networking luncheon in partnership with the Delcambre Seafood & Farmers Market. Learn more on the Chamber’s website.
  • As explained in a recent ABiz article, Governor John Bel Edwards tied the fate of the I-49 funding to the passage of an increased gas tax. Read more in the ABiz article.


Baton Rouge

  • On Tuesday, May 23, the Baton Rouge Chapter of the Association for Talent Development is hosting a lunch, "What's New with Teams? A Look at Psychological Safety, Trust, and Cohesion.” Attendees will leave with the knowledge and practical tools to support the teams and team leaders in your organization.   • As noted above, the State of Louisiana, along with partners TruFund and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center, is hosting two information sessions on Tuesday, May 23, in Walker. Both sessions will take place at the Southeast Louisiana Literacy and Technology Center at 9621 Florida Blvd. in Walker. The morning session will take place from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, and the afternoon will be from 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM.


Central Louisiana

  • The Small Business Association (SBA) and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) are hosting a Certification Workshop on Tuesday, May 23, in Alexandria. The presenters from the SBA will discuss certifications offered by the SBA to help small businesses access government contracts. Click here to register.


Greater New Orleans:

  • On Tuesday, May 23, StayLocal and Fidelity Bank are hosting a breakfast workshop, "Managing Your Business and Professional Brand on LinkedIn.” Attendees will learn how to manage their personal and business LinkedIn profiles. Click here for more information.
  • As noted above, the State of Louisiana, along with partners TruFund and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center, is hosting two information sessions on Thursday, May 25, in Hammond. Both sessions will take place at Southeast Louisiana Business Center, 1514 Martens Drive, Hammond. The morning session will take place from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, and the afternoon will be from 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM.
