"Around Louisiana” is a weekly blog post that provides business news from across Louisiana. Every Monday, we share news and events from different corners of the state.


  • This week, April 30 – May 6, is National Small Business Week (NSBW) hosted by the Small Business Administration (SBA). The week is a celebration of the impact small businesses have on our economy and our communities. Learn more in a recent LCIA blog post or on the NSBW website.
  • The Baton Rouge Business Report has put together a Business Resource Guide for the upcoming legislative session. The guide provides explanations of such issues as budget and taxes, a transportation tax, and criminal justice reform. Click here to view the guide.


  • According to a recent ABiz article, One Acadiana announced that Acadiana Day will take place on Monday, May 15. On Acadiana Day, One Acadiana will guide a caravan of leaders from the nine-parish region into the Louisiana State Capitol to show their pride for Acadiana. Read the ABiz article here.

Baton Rouge

  • According to a recent Baton Rouge Business Report article, "Baton Rouge multifamily and industrial real estate markets expected to grow.” This was according a speakers at the annual TRENDS conference in Baton Rouge. Read the article here.

Central Louisiana

  • On Tuesday, May 2, the Central Louisiana Regional Chamber of Commerce is hosting a seminar, "Developing a "Say Yes” Culture from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Chamber’s office in Alexandria. Baker Manufacturing COO Sandra McQuain will lead the discussion. Click here for more information.

Greater New Orleans:

  • New Orleans CityBusiness reported last week that The Port of New Orleans is teaming up with Jefferson Parish to form an economic development task force. According to the article, the Task Force is tasked with finding new developments along the western edge of the port’s jurisdiction. Click here to read the article.
  • The next installment of the Grow St. Bernard program will take place this Tuesday, May 2, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. This workshop will feature a presentation by photographer Zack Smith, "Strategies for social media and reaching customers in a digital age.” Click here to register.

North Louisiana

  • The Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce is hosting an all-day North Louisiana Matchmaker and Training Conference on Thursday, May 4 at the Bossier Parish Community College. The main event will consist of an all-day reverse trade show where government agencies and large prime contractors will serve as exhibitors, giving our small business community the opportunity to interact with and market directly to the decision makers.
